WELCOME TO BEST OF THE WORST
What is the Best of the Worst?
“Best of the Worst” is a beer tournament that pits different beers against each other in a NCAA tournament-style bracket challenge. Blind tastings decide the winner of each matchup until a Best of the Worst Champion is crowned.
The original Best of the Worst pitted your dad’s historically bad favorite beers against each other. In subsequent years, different themes have emerged, including last year’s “International” beer tournament, and this year’s theme of “Top Selling” beers. This year’s tournament includes the top 16 selling beers in North America, ranked by YTD sales dollars.
HOW THIS WORKS
Get your Tasting Glasses
Each participant gets two tasting glasses - one mug and one pilsner glass. The glasses will have matching numbers on them to help people keep track of their tasing glasses.
Participants will select a set of glasses and mark their name on the sheet to indicate which number glasses are theirs.
Get Served
Each participant places their empty glass on a serving tray. When all glasses are ready, the "Beer Slinger" will take the empty tasting glasses to a designated non-visible location with the beers.
The "Beer Slinger" will fill each tasting glass with ~2 oz of beer for a given matchup; one brand of beer will be in the pilsner glass, and the other in the mug.
The "Beer Slinger" will bring out the trays with tasting glasses and a voting token for each set of tasting glasses. The participants will each find/take their own tasting glasses from the trays along with one voting token. Participants will not know what brand of beers they are tasting.
Vote Early and Often
Participants taste the two beers and vote with their voting token. There will be a voting box with two slots - one for the pilsner glass and one for the mug. The participant will vote for the winner by placing their voting token into the slot of the voting box for the tasing glass they liked best.
Once everyone has voted, the "Beer Slinger" removes the voting tokens from the voting box and counts to determine which beer won (Mug or Pilsner glass). The "Beer Slinger" advances the winner on the bracket, but it will remain a secret until the entire round is complete.
Rinse and Repeat
Each participant is responsible for rinsing out their tasting glasses and returning them to the serving tray in preparation for the next round.
The “Beer Slinger” will take the tasting glasses and pour the next round of beers.
The Big Reveal
After an entire round is complete. The remaining cans for the "loser" beers will be ceremoniously removed from the "queueing" coolers and into a "loser" cooler so that everyone can see how much the beers suck and the loser beers are relegated for general consumption.
This will continue through each round until a winner is crowned "Best of the Worst."
